Once your profile registration is submitted, a Relationship Manager will review your profile for accuracy. This includes the validation of your training records or certifications. You may be contacted by phone or email if we have questions or concerns. As soon as your profile review is complete, it will be enabled to begin receiving work order notifications.
Profile Bank Account
Payment for all completed work orders will be direct-deposited into the bank account you add to your profile. Some interpreters open a new checking account that is used for this purpose only. If this step is skipped, all payments will be held until a bank account is added. Contact us if you have any questions or concerns.
Please upload any training records or certifications that you hold as credentials for your interpretation or translation work. This information is used to match and verify interpreter qualifications with industry requirements or best practices for quality assurance.
You will be prompted to upload a profile picture. Please choose a professional photo or stand in front of any color wall that is clear and have someone take a picture of you from chest up. This picture is used to identify you to our clients, for security reasons, if necessary.
On the registration form is a field labeled, "Registration Code." If you have a code that was given to you for this purpose, enter it. Otherwise leave the field empty and continue.
On volatia.com, click register located on the top right corner of the page. Complete the registration form and click Register. You will then be guided through the steps to set up your profile correctly.
Volatia provides mileage reimbursements whenever the travel distances is greater than 25 miles (round trip) from the interpreter's home to the worksite facility. In some cases, Volatia pays the interpreter portal-to-portal.
All payments are direct deposited into a U.S. bank account of your choice. When you create your terpX profile, you will be prompted to add your routing and checking account number for this purpose. This information is secure and can be updated by you at any time.
Payments are made on the 1st and 16th day of every month. Work that was completed between the 1st and the 15th day of the month is paid on the 1st day of the following month. Likewise, work that is completed between the 16th and the last day of the month is paid on the 16th of the following month.
As a standard, Volatia pays all interpreters a minimum of two (2) hours for work orders that are performed in-person. Thereafter, Spoken Language Interpreters are paid in increments of 1 minute while Sign Language Interpreters are paid in increments of 30 minutes to 1 hour. Note: Minimums for virtual work orders (Zoom, Teams, etc.) vary based on the language, frequency, and the nature of the assignment.

Generally speaking, a qualified interpreter is one who has successfully completed a language proficiency assessment, received training that covers the various roles and responsibilities of an interpreter, and has demonstrated a strong grasp of the vocabulary and terminology used in the field(s) in which he or she will accept work. It is a best practice that linguists complete a minimum of 40 hours of training that include assessments of skills before being considered a qualified. It should be noted that the majority of interpreters worldwide are Qualified NOT Certified.
A certified interpreter is one whose interpreting skills have been assessed and credentialed as "Certified" by a national or regional industry recognized governing body, such as NBCMI, CCHI, RID, etc. Such interpreters are required to be already "qualified" in order to participate in the certification process. A significant element to consider is the fact that certification programs are only available in select languages. This prevents many qualified interpreters from obtaining certification credentials.

Skills Beyond Language Fluency
If you are fluent in two or more languages but have not received any training that would qualify you to serve as a professional interpreter, you MUST go through a qualification process that assesses your language proficiency and provides training before you can serve as an interpreter in the Volatia network. Virtual Platform Interpreting (VPI)
Virtual Interpreting refers to interpreter services provided through a 3rd party applications such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet, etc. and thus require a scheduled appointment. As a network interpreter, you will have access to these types of work orders, allowing you to work when you want and from anywhere. Note: it is best to plan on supporting other types services whenever possible to increase your volume of work.
Video Interpreting (VRI)
Volatia offers ondemand video interpretation for for spoken languages as well as American Sign Langauge (ASL). When client's connect through our mobile or web applications, they connect to professional interpreters within seconds. Positions in our ondemand video interpreter queues are filled as the demand grows for the respective language. Interpreters who are already in the network receive preferential consideration when filling open positions.
Phone Interpreting (OPI)
Phone interpretation has been the fastest growing mode of interpreting for nearly two decades. Everyday, Clients from all over the world connect to professional interpreters using their cellphones, landlines, or our mobile and web applications. Positions in our ondemand phone interpreter queues are filled as the demand grows for the respective language. Interpreters who are already in the network receive preferential consideration when filling open positions.
Onsite Interpreting (OSI)
Onsite interpreting, also known as in-person or face-to-face interpreting, is when a language interpreter is scheduled to meet a client at a given location to bridge a language barrier. Once your profile is set with the travel distance parameters, you will be able to receive work orders from all of our clients who are within the specified travel distance. You can change your settings at any time as circumstances change.
